Flash Fiction Writing

It took me a long time to start getting the stories out of my head and onto the page and I now aim to write something everyday

I run ideas around and my favourite method is to go for a walk and tell the story to myself. The ideas might come from something I’ve read, an overheard conversation or something I’ve seen

My Flash Fiction photography will often spark an idea off and get all sorts of strange ideas and connections running. it might be something that’s been lost, something out of place or just something unusual, obscure or bizarre

I’ve used all types of notebooks over the years to jot down ideas but now use Artefact Cards which I carry around with me at all times so I can capture ideas on the fly and use them to build the bare bones of a story

These include short sentence stories, lists of words, outlines, etc. which in the past I’d always think that I’d remember but never did!

The cards are then stored in a business card holder so I can flip through them easily to get the creative part of my brain kick started

I try to write a minimum of 500 words per day (but don’t beat myself up if I don’t do this) and mark my progress off with a large cross on  my calendar to give me some visual motivation. If I go too long without writing I become a grumpy old bastard to everyone around me so for my own wellbeing I do tend to create something everyday!
